How it works

From “can I?” to “here’s how” in seconds

Four steps, the same on the web, iPhone and Android.

1

Add your situation once

Pregnancy (with your due date), breastfeeding, vegan or vegetarian, allergies and how strict to be about “may contain”, coeliac, and conditions like gestational diabetes or warfarin. Add family members too.

2

Search, scan or snap

Type a food, scan a barcode in the supermarket, photograph an ingredients panel, or check a whole restaurant menu by photo or link.

3

Get one answer

Safe, Limit, Caution or Avoid, with the strictest result first and a row for each part of your situation. Each verdict has its own icon shape, so it never relies on colour alone.

4

Make it safe, or know what to ask

Most “Avoid” foods have a fix: bake until steaming hot, choose pasteurised, ask for it cooked through. When something can’t be known from a label or photo, we give you the exact question to ask.

What happens behind each answer

Written rules, not a chatbot

Every verdict comes from rules based on NZ MPI, FSANZ and other authorities. The same food and situation always gives the same answer.

AI only reads

For labels, menus and plates, AI turns the photo into a list of ingredients and how it’s cooked. Our rules decide what that means for you.

Unknowns stay unknown

We never mark something Safe we can’t check. A plate photo is never Safe; it shows the hidden risks to ask about instead.
