How we review guidance

Every answer comes from a set of written rules, and every rule links to the health authority it came from: NZ MPI and Te Whatu Ora in Aotearoa New Zealand, FSANZ, RANZCOG and ASCIA in Australia, plus Coeliac NZ, Coeliac Australia and Monash University for FODMAPs.

AI is only used to read labels, menus and photos. It never decides whether something is safe. If we can’t tell, we say so and give you the question to ask, rather than guessing.

We re-check each source at least once a year, and show the review date on every answer.

Not medical advice

Can I Eat gives general guidance. It doesn’t know your full medical history. Talk to your midwife, GP, dietitian or pharmacist about your own situation, especially for medical conditions, medications and severe allergies. In an emergency call 111 (NZ) or 000 (Australia).
